The artist James Casebere creates his images by building tabletop models and photographing their interiors. In the mid-1990s, Casebere produced a series of photographs based on American penitentiaries, and his work continues to return to sites of incarceration. He discussed his practice and some of his ideas with Roberto Juarez in a 2001 interview for Bomb.
