Triptych of Cells by Ted Daniels

Killing the Buddha presents "Abandoned Souls," images of Eastern State Penitentiary by the Philadelphia photographer and author Ted Daniels. Referring to the prison's notorious solitary confinement cells as "spaces of enforced mediation," the project evokes the deep and tangled relationship between religious traditions--prayer, penitence, spiritual reflection--and the history of incarceration.
